Our Programs
From signature cultural festivals to youth initiatives — FWNS-MD brings the community together year after year.
Our Flagship Events
Gaura Parva, Bishu Parva, and our Youth & Community Initiative are the cornerstone programs of FWNS-MD — spanning cultural celebrations, youth development, and community empowerment.
Gaura Parva
Gaura Parva is the premier cultural event of FWNS-MD and a cornerstone of Far-Western identity in Maryland. One of the most cherished festivals of the Far-Western Nepali community, it celebrates the arrival of the new year, the bounty of harvest, and the enduring bonds of family and community.
Under the current executive leadership, FWNS-MD organized the 3rd and 4th Gaura Parva celebrations, each bringing together hundreds of community members across generations. The events feature traditional rituals, cultural performances, community recognition, Deuda dancing, and organized program management — reflecting both cultural authenticity and organizational maturity.
Gaura Parva has received civic recognition from Baltimore City and County governments, establishing it as a respected annual cultural institution that reinforces heritage preservation and intergenerational unity across the Nepali diaspora in Maryland.
Bishu Parva
Bishu Parva is FWNS-MD's celebration of the Nepali New Year — one of the most cherished traditions of the Far-Western region. The festival brings together members of the Nepali diaspora across Maryland and neighboring states for cultural performances, traditional Nepali cuisine, and family-friendly activities.
The 3rd Bishu Parva (2025) continued the preservation of Far-Western New Year traditions while expanding youth and family engagement. The event strengthened regional identity and cultural continuity, reinforcing FWNS-MD's commitment to sustaining traditional values within a structured organizational framework.
Bishu Parva has received positive engagement and recognition at the community level, further positioning FWNS-MD as a key cultural organizer in Maryland. It is particularly meaningful for second-generation community members connecting with their Far-Western heritage.
Youth & Community Initiative
Beyond cultural celebrations, FWNS-MD is deeply committed to the long-term growth and well-being of our community — particularly our youth. Our Youth & Community Initiative brings together sports development, family programming, civic engagement, and community support under one coordinated effort.
On the sports side, FWNS-MD's Under-15 soccer program has produced championship-winning teams, giving young players in our community a structured and competitive environment to grow. Our affiliated sports clubs in soccer, cricket, and volleyball provide pathways for youth and adults alike to stay active, build teamwork, and represent our community with pride.
Our inaugural Kids Day Out program — a coordinated family outing to the Maryland Zoo — marked a significant step toward structured youth engagement beyond sports, emphasizing experiential learning, family bonding, and investment in the next generation of community leaders. It is the first of what we intend to be a growing suite of youth-centered programs.
Through civic meet & greet events with elected officials and community leaders, FWNS-MD also ensures that youth and families stay connected to the broader civic landscape — understanding their rights, their voice, and their place in Maryland's diverse community.
