Unity in Growth — The FWNS-MD Story

From a small trust to a thriving nonprofit

The Far-Western Nepalese Society of Maryland, Inc. (FWNS-MD) traces its origins to 2016, beginning as the FarWest Nepalese Welfare Trust in Baltimore and evolving into FWNS-MD in 2019.

Officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in July 2022 and incorporated under the laws of the State of Maryland, our journey is a testament to the growth, resilience, and dedication of our community.

Today, FWNS-MD unites the Far-Western Nepalese diaspora across Maryland, enriching lives through cultural, educational, health, and sports initiatives — and empowering our vibrant diaspora to thrive.

2016 — Origins

Founded as the FarWest Nepalese Welfare Trust in Baltimore, Maryland.

2019 — FWNS-MD Established

Reorganized and renamed as the Far-Western Nepalese Society, Maryland, USA.

July 2022 — IRS Recognition

Officially granted 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity status by the IRS. EIN: 93-2746265.

August 2023 — State Good Standing

Maryland Department of Assessments & Taxation certified FWNS-MD in good standing.

2026 — New Bylaws & Leadership Transition

Updated bylaws adopted at the AGM on February 28, 2026. New executive leadership election underway.

Our Mission

To build a strong community spirit, offer support, and promote personal and collective development within the Far-Western Nepalese diaspora. We aim to empower our community through diverse initiatives, ensuring our rich cultural heritage is celebrated and the needs of our community are met.

Key Initiatives & Programs

Cultural Programs

We celebrate and preserve our Far-Western Nepalese culture through festivals, arts, and cultural events — including Bishu Parva, Dashain, Tihar, and Nepali New Year celebrations that foster a deep sense of heritage and belonging.

Educational Workshops

Our educational programs and workshops are designed to enhance skills, knowledge, and opportunities for both youth and adults in our community, including scholarship support and mentorship.

Health & Wellness

We organize health camps and wellness programs focusing on the physical and mental well-being of our community members, including health awareness campaigns and free health screenings.

Community Support

Our support services assist members in need, providing financial aid, counseling, and networking opportunities during illness, death, disasters, or other hardships.

Sports Activities

FWNS-MD supports affiliated clubs in football (soccer), volleyball, and cricket. Our sports activities promote health, teamwork, and community bonds through regular tournaments and leagues.
